Still Life in Oils

Artist: Barbara Binford Davis

3-Day Workshop
Beginner to Advanced Levels

Believing that learning to paint the effect of light will allow you to paint any subject well,  Barbara will work with you in this class to learn specifically how light and shadow define form.  You will learn about different light effects and composition as we work from life using still life arrangements inside the studio.  Fresh brushtrokes and use of color will be emphasized. The valuable lessons of observation you acquire in this controlled environment will help you in your plein air work - just as your plein air work helps you in the studio!

Weather permitting, we may venture outside to paint a still life to see and understand the transforming effect of sunlight.

A lifetime resident of Montgomery, Alabama, Barbara obtained a degree in Fine Art from Auburn University Montgomery.  She credits plein air painting with changing her life and opening doors allowing her to paint on a full-time basis as well as stirring in her a passion to paint, to pursue painting in an impressionistic manner capturing light and its effect on the form.

Barbara is a active member of the American Impressionist Society, Oil Painters of America, and the Portrait Society of America.
